Before language, there were marks. Before words, there were symbols. Before clocks, there were cycles. The First Marks Collection explores humanity's earliest instinct to communicate, record and remember. Across three original works, the collection traces the beginnings of visual language: from the first traces left behind to symbols carrying shared meaning, and finally to the observation of recurring natural cycles through which time began to be understood. Layered textures, metallic pigments, gold leaf, crushed glass and crystals create surfaces that feel weathered, excavated and almost archaeological. Marks appear embedded within the works as though they have been discovered rather than newly made. Together, First Words, First Symbols and First Measure of Time consider one enduring human impulse: the desire to leave something of ourselves behind.
