First Symbols considers the moment when a mark begins to carry meaning.

Its circular form, carved lines and mineral-like surface reference the enduring human instinct to create symbols, long before a shared written language existed.

Crushed glass and crystals are embedded within the heavily textured surface, revealing themselves differently as the light changes and giving the work a tactile, almost excavated quality.

Acrylic paint, metallic pigments, textural mediums, crushed glass and crystals, finished with a protective archival spray varnish.
