First Words explores the marks that existed before written language became fixed.
Layered, fragmented and almost archaeological in appearance, its heavily textured surface evokes traces left behind, marks through which human beings first attempted to communicate, record and remember.
Vertical forms emerge from an earthy metallic ground, catching the light differently across the surface and giving the work the feeling of something ancient being gradually uncovered.
Acrylic paint, metallic pigments, textural mediums and gold leaf, finished with a protective archival varnish.
60 × 60 cm Original artwork, 1/1.
Created as part of the First Marks Collection, First Words considers the beginnings of visual language and the instinctive human desire to leave something of ourselves behind.
Certificate of Authenticity included.
